Hi Members
We thought a brief newsletter to bring everyone up to date would be appropriate given the activities and EGMs held over the past couple of months and the close proximity of the festive season.
Building
At the last EGM members voted to allow the executive to seek to sell our current premises and investigate new smaller premises for our club. The current building is 2200m2, and the use that it gets from members really only justifies 1000m2 approximately. And the costs of being here are extremely high, so the intention is to become debt free in a home more suited to the members useage.
An advisory group of members has been set up to work to specific terms of reference to see what the options are and to me recommendations to the executive for action. There are many options, and the group comprises of Graham Lloyd, Barney Williams, Bevan Brown, Steve O’Connell, Bill Boyd, with Gary Griggs and Ray Symons from our executive. Their first meeting is this week.
Elections
The AGM this year will have a largest group contesting an election for a number of years. Two members are contesting the Presidency ( Gary Griggs, president for the past 4 years and member of the executive for 6 years) and George Mathew ( member of the executive for past 4 years) we also have 8 nominations for executive positions , and require 4. Mike O’Conner is elected unopposed for Vice President.
Voting begins on Saturday 17th September at 10.00am and concludes at 5pm Saturday 1st October. Voting booth is at the RSA reception and will be open from 9.00am till 3.00 pm daily after these hours you can vote at the bar and all members are encouraged to vote.
Events and entertainment:
We are having live entertainment every Saturday still, and it would be good to have more members supporting this. We are also going to have live Kiwioke ( Kareoke with a twist with Kiwi, a well known local entertainer, on a few Friday nights coming up, check the phone entertainment line on 3532010 to see when these nights are happening, its free so there is no excuse. During September and October we have Craven Noble, Andy Ellis, Joy Adams, and on the 29 October a Octoberfest Beer Festival, only $20, and this includes a free stein ( full) and supper, plus the great Bavarian Band section of the PN Brass band, come on in for a oompah and a fun night, tickets at reception.
Functions:
We have some vacancies for Christmas functions left still so if your group want a good night out ring Sarah and see if you can hook into events and entertainment already booked or we can book one for you.
Golf Club:
Our contract held for the last 2 years at the Manawatu golf club comes to an end in Mid November, as the Golf club now want to go it alone, (now we have taught them how to do it) and we wish them luck in the very competitive world of functions and event management. If you require a function there before we leave again give Sarah a call, we would be happy to assist.
We ask you support your RSA, the world cup games are on live each game, and there is a lot of conviviality in YOUR RSA. The members who use it are what we are all about, and its ongoing place in our society depends very much on the support and loyalty of YOU.
Cheers
The Team at YOUR RSA
